I think it is extremely important to mention in this series of blog posts that there is sometimes the need for a form of help beyond what was mentioned the last few weeks.
This might look like psychiatric care or medical help or a specified type of therapy for a period of time.
Let’s zoom out for a moment.

God is our ultimate healer but he heals in many different ways.
He can heal with a touch but he sometimes uses the touch of a physician.
He is our counselor but he can give us a psychologist to journey with us.
He is all-knowing but he gives psychiatrists expertise on how mental disorders can be treated and managed with medication and therapy.
He is the creator but he gives scientists creativity to create methods like EMDR and DBT that help with brain rewiring after trauma.
We are set free from sin through salvation but we may need to be “held” for a time in an inpatient facility for a time to keep us safe and give us the intensive care and rehabilitation we need.

All of these options mentioned are limited at some level while God is not. So we can acknowledge the value and the gift of these options that we have, knowing that it is most likely that we will need a combination of these opportunities throughout the course of our lives and we will never not need God. We were made for Him. We are restless without Him.
Whenever possible, choosing a professional who shares your worldview and faith is extremely helpful but that may not always be an option.
We have to keep interpreting any of the advice or help we receive through the lens of Scripture and not the other way around.
Our ultimate hope and anchor for our soul is that Jesus went before us and understands all of our weakness and suffering and paid for all of our sin. How kind of Him to give us resources this side of heaven to aid us as we walk this short road (that often feels so long) from earth into eternity.
In this with you,
Lauren
